This rollicking comedy stars Alan Austin and Graham Thatcher as the McCourt brothers, Frank and Malachy, as they spin tales of their adventures growing up in Limerick, Ireland and moving to America. The McCourts never met a person they didn't want to skewer with their keen wit that runs from affectionate to blatantly audacious. They parcel out just enough blarney and Irish ballads to offend almost everyone, while endearing themselves as lovers of Limerick and their dear old Irish mother. There are only two actors, but many more characters, who inhabit the stage with riotous foibles . . . all a little more than slightly embellished and certainly unconstrained by the real facts.
A Couple of Blaguards has achieved critical acclaim around the country, especially in St Paul, where it was originally produced at the Great North American History Theatre and held over for several weeks. The show tours to other US cities and will be presented in Arizona this February and March and in California in April. Patrick Meirick of the Albert Lea Tribune commented, "If you enjoy blarney and you like seeing Irish eyes smile, you shouldn't miss A Couple of Blaguards..engaging performances....bring alive a rollicking autobiographical script."
