Murder Ink Productions -- Murder Mystery Dinner Theater Frequently asked questions about the Interactive Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre

1.) What is Interactive Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre?
The New York Times calls interactive murder mysteries, "A party game for grown ups in search of more spice in their entrees." Professional writers, directors and actors have combined their talents to create a whodunnit which allows you to play a character or try to solve the crimes - all while enjoying a delicious dinner in a great setting.

2.) What types of Murder Mysteries are there?
Most of our shows are designed for maximum audience participation (e.g., 'Spy!,' 'Lights, Camera, Murder,' 'Who Shot the Sheriff?') wherein many guests have parts. In others, the audience is slightly less involved and there's more music and dancing. (Mansion Club Murders). They are ideal for corporate entertainment.

3.) Do the actors appear on a stage?
There is no stage, nothing separating you from the actors. It's the difference between watching a movie and being in one. You can interact with the characters.

4.) Are the seats equal?
The actors sit among you and walk around the room so wherever you sit, you are right there in the middle of the action.

5.) Can I play the part of a character?
Depending on the show (see Question 2), you will be asked whether or not you want to take a part. If you are playing a part, a detailed character biography will be supplied. Sometimes you will be given a prop to help you get into character and even an odd line. All that is required of you is that you have fun.

6.) When is dinner served?
Dinner will be served throughout the evening and there will be breaks in the action, even breaks for you to question the characters and search for clues.

7.) How long does it last?
Most of our shows begin at 7:30 and end at about 10:00. If there's a trial or lynching, then it goes on a bit longer.

8.) What should I wear?
We want you to have fun and be relaxed. Some of our plays are specifically historical, so if you are coming with friends and want to get dressed up in the period, this will add to the show and to your fun. Relaxed and smartly casual is our usual advice.
